E3 09:Microsoft E3 Press Conference reveals Modern Warfare 2 Gameplay

Modern Warfare 2
With almost everyone expecting to see Infinity Ward’s hot title Modern Warfare 2, its no surprise that Microsoft debuted Modern Warfare 2’s first gameplay at their E3 2009 conference today.

After Jason West of Infinity Ward appeared on-stage it was down to business, starting up Modern Warfare 2, and showing the first ever gameplay to the public. Starting off on the side of a cliff with a familiar face, “Soap” McTavish guides you across a thin ledge. Soap digs his picks into the side of the mountain and starts to climb, signaling for you to follow. Once at the top, McTavish nearly slips when a plane flies overhead but manages to pull himself over the edge.

Gamespot UK’s Guy Cocker states “The level of detail was incredible: The ice cracks under pressure as you plunge in your hook, and your clothing blows in the vicious mountain winds.”

The game skips to a snowy naval base in which the player has an interesting weapon new to the series. With an attached radar to seek out enemies, the player can use his gun to navigate and seek out enemies in an already minimal-visibility setting.

McTavish instructs you to plant C4 on the fueling station and let it blow. As soon as the explosion is seen, enemies chase you and McTavish out with snowmobiles. McTavish makes a great move and uses a knife to steal an oncoming enemy on a snowmobile, with which both of you grab a snowmobile a head down the hill. While on the snowmobile, you have the option to use a semiautomatic pistol to shoot enemies while driving.

With Modern Warfare 2 looking very impressive so far, what can we expect the final product to look and play like?

Microsoft also announced that two Modern Warfare 2 map packs will arrive first for a time-exclusive on Xbox Live, and the Playstation 3 and PC(maybe) will have to wait for their share.

PlayStation 3 to receive all DLC beginning in late June; 2 New DLC on the way

Beginning in late June, PlayStation 3 owners will finally be able to download and play the DLC that has been Xbox 360-exclusive since Operation Anchorage appeared on Xbox Live Marketplace. Bethesda Softworks, creator of Fallout 3, has been hard at work to implement the DLC onto the PlayStation 3.

Two new DLC packs, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta, will arrive in late June to late July, and both will be available for 800 points on Xbox Live Marketplace. The two will arrive on PlayStation Network after the first three DLC’s have been released.

From what can be gathered so far:

  • Point Lookout – Explore a massive new swampland area filled with new quests and content.
  • Mothership Zeta – The aliens have returned, and they’re pissed. Experience an alien abduction first hand and find out if you’re tough enough to survive.

“Finally, new Fallout 3 products will be available at retail this year.

Fallout 3 Game Add-on Pack #1 includes The Pitt and Operation: Anchorage on a disc and will be available for Xbox 360 and PC on May 26.

The Fallout 3 Game Add-on Pack #2 includes Broken Steel and Point Lookout on a disc and will be available for Xbox 360 and PC in August.

Retail versions of the game add-on packs for PS3 are not possible and the DLC will only be available for download online via PlayStation Network.

A Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition will be available in October. It will include the original game plus all five add-ons for $59.99 for Xbox 360 and PS3, and $49.99 for PC.”

Fallout 3 Broken Steel – New Screenshots

Fallout 3’s next DLC, “Broken Steel”, has been featured in some new pictures. This new DLC pack looks to be a must-have, and hopefully this wont be the last that we see of the DLC series of releases for Fallout 3.

“Broken Steel alters the ending of the original Fallout 3 to allow continued play after the end of the main quest line. This means that when it is time to go into the reactor at the end of Take it Back!, you can still go in yourself or you can send one of three side characters. However, even if you go yourself, you do not die. Instead, you survive the ordeal and wake up two weeks later at the Citadel. If you allow the Purifier to explode, the game will still end.”

Broken Steel hits PC and Xbox Live May 5th for $10, or 800 Microsoft Points.

First round of DLC announced for Killzone 2

During a recent episode of GameTrailers TV, Managing Director of Guerrilla Games, Herman Hulst, announced that a map pack would soon be available as downloadable content for his most recent game Killzone 2.

Named the Steel @ Titanium pack, the realm of Killzone 2 multiplayer is taken back to where the fans of its single player mode enjoyed the most.

“Set on-board of two of the largest vehicles in the Killzone universe, there is the ISA flagship tech cruiser and a pair of two high-speed Helghast freight trains.”

Fighting inside the ISA tech cruiser, the gameplay is changed to a more vertical aspect. The cruiser features multiple decks, so the player can be shot at from above or down below, making finding good cover and maintaining the spot a challenge.

On the steel map in the pack, players start at the beginning of one train and fight to the end of the other train, while being able to hop from one train to another. However, caution is needed while jumping across due to the harsh environment in between the two trains, which can smash the player off of the trains, sending him or her to an painful but quick death.

Players can expect the pack by the end of April.

Guerrilla is indeed working on the next pack after their first releases, the word to keep a look out for is “Retro.”
