MAG Public Beta Invites Sent Out

Some lucky gamers have received the first wave of beta invites for Sony’s new online multiplayer game MAG. The following was posted on Joystiq when they received an invite:

According to the beta enrollment page, Sony “will be adding people in waves.” If you don’t see an invite in your inbox right now, don’t worry: you may be invited later. “If you do not receive an invite for the first wave you may still be invited in a following MAG Public Beta wave.”

Sony has already conducted a closed beta for MAG for over a month. The expansion of the beta to the public gives us hope that maybe — just maybe — we’ll be able to see MAG‘s 256-player online battles hitting the PS3 sooner rather than later.

PlayStation Home: Fat Princess Space

With tomorrows release of Fat Princess rapidly coming, why not hype Sony’s new downloadable game with some new screenshots of the PlayStation Home space? The space looks interesting, but does not look to offer much to do at all. However, there is a question system which looks like a little trivia quiz. Any prizes thrown in?

Fat Princess places the player on a team of up to 16 soldiers fighting for their beloved Princess whom is captured and being held by the opposing team in their castle. Of course, if this gameplay doesn’t sound appealing to the player, Fat Princess offers the standard team-deathmatch mode.

When playing Princess Mode, players have to rescue their teams captured Princess in their opponents castle. Cake is grown outside the castle, which players can pick up and force-feed the opposing Princess in order to make her heavier, resulting in a slower return to the rescuers castle.

PlayStation 3 owners can purchase Fat Princess on the PlayStation Network store for $14.99 this coming Thursday, July 30.

When you think of a Princess, does she eat a ton of cake? Normally no, but with Sony Online Entertainment’s new downloadable game Fat Princess, that thought can finally be fulfilled. Fat Princess combines cake and medieval castles to provide fun community gameplay to owners of the PlayStation 3.

ModNation Racers: Official Trailer

[blip.tv ?posts_id=2394467&dest=-1]

After seeing the first gameplay for ModNation Racers at E3 2009, the community-based racer has its own official trailer. Sony Computer Entertainments new LittleBigPlanet-type racing game combine’s user created tracks and endless fun with friends to create the ultimate racing experience for the whole family.

For gameplay, ModNation Racers is like any other kart-racing game such as Mario Kart. The creation tools are easy, allowing users to construct their own tracks and the surrounding area. Players can add houses, mountains, trees, and even water, creating a good background for the mood the creator wants to create for the track.

Sony has this to say about their upcoming racer:

“Vinyl art & collector toys were an inspiration for us as we set out to create a game about creativity and self expression. It was in this spirit of creativity that we developed our character, kart and track editors. We wanted to give the user the ability to make whatever they wanted, but do so in a way that felt like playing and not working. For example, you just drive and the track is created behind you, so it’s intuitive and fun.”

ModNation Racers is set to hit the Playstation 3 in 2010.

Looking for a way to get into the multiplayer beta for Uncharted 2? Well heres you chance… Purchase one of the first copies of inFamous, Sucker Punch’s new open-world action adventure, and receive a code for access into the Uncharted 2 Multiplayer Beta.

PLAYSTATION(R)3 Computer Entertainment System Exclusive UNCHARTED 2: Among
Thieves(TM) Expands Gameplay by Introducing Online Multiplayer Features to Franchise

Featuring Five-Versus-Five Player Matches Competitively, and Up To Three Player
Cooperative Modes; Franchise Adds Hours of Replayability

SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 27 /PRNewswire/ — Sony Computer Entertainment America
today announced that UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves, exclusively for the
PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) system, will introduce online competitive and
cooperative multiplayer modes to the franchise. Developed by premier PS3 software
developer Naughty Dog Inc., UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves, the highly-anticipated
follow up to UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune™, will feature up to 10 players
in 5-versus-5 competitive gameplay. Cooperative multiplayer modes allow up-to-3
players to progress through a variety of environments by working together to
accomplish set objectives. Utilizing a robust party system, groups of players will
remain together in ranked and custom matches while earning currency, which used in
combination with currency earned in single player missions, will unlock additional
content and upgrades.

Presented with multiple modes of competitive gameplay, players battle in ranked
matches that include Death Match and Plunder, a unique style of multiplayer
competition that encourages team work to transport a treasure over dynamic terrain
such as ledges and obstacles. Plunder brings truly vertical game play to traditional
multiplayer modes. With maps based on environments from the single player campaign,
players are taken from the nighttime streets of a war torn city to a Nepalese
village and have the ability to create custom games allowing them to play any type
of game on any map.

“Adding a multiplayer aspect to the UNCHARTED franchise is a significant step
in the replayability of the game,” said Christophe Balestra, co president
Naughty Dog. “UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves will be the most impressive and
ambitious game that Naughty Dog has done and we are thrilled to let our fans
experience it this fall.”

SCEA is planning a consumer BETA program for UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves beginning
June 3 through June 28. Consumers who purchase one of the first copies of inFAMOUS,
the open world superhero action adventure from Sucker Punch Productions launching
May 26, have the opportunity to be among the first to test the multiplayer modes of
UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves via an access key packed in the box.

UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves is the story of Nathan Drake, a fortune-hunter with a
shady reputation and an even shadier past who is lured back into the treacherous
world of thieves and mercenary treasure-seekers. The tenth game by premier PS3
software developer Naughty Dog, UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves allows players to take
control of Drake and embark on a journey that will push him to his physical,
emotional and intellectual limits to discover the real truth behind the lost fleet
of Marco Polo and the legendary Himalayan valley of Shambhala.

First round of DLC announced for Killzone 2

During a recent episode of GameTrailers TV, Managing Director of Guerrilla Games, Herman Hulst, announced that a map pack would soon be available as downloadable content for his most recent game Killzone 2.

Named the Steel @ Titanium pack, the realm of Killzone 2 multiplayer is taken back to where the fans of its single player mode enjoyed the most.

“Set on-board of two of the largest vehicles in the Killzone universe, there is the ISA flagship tech cruiser and a pair of two high-speed Helghast freight trains.”

Fighting inside the ISA tech cruiser, the gameplay is changed to a more vertical aspect. The cruiser features multiple decks, so the player can be shot at from above or down below, making finding good cover and maintaining the spot a challenge.

On the steel map in the pack, players start at the beginning of one train and fight to the end of the other train, while being able to hop from one train to another. However, caution is needed while jumping across due to the harsh environment in between the two trains, which can smash the player off of the trains, sending him or her to an painful but quick death.

Players can expect the pack by the end of April.

Guerrilla is indeed working on the next pack after their first releases, the word to keep a look out for is “Retro.”
