Heavy Rain: First 9 Minutes

Wow, the first full 9 minutes of the upcoming Adventure tale from Quantic Dream and Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 3 looks just like a movie. The gameplay looks slow and boring to start, but the graphics look hot. This is only the beginning of the game, meaning the developers could have made it more fun and interactive from the ending point of this video onto the end of the game.Anyway, enjoy the video below, and click on it if you want to see a bigger version.

Heavy Rain will be available to consumers on February 23 for the PlayStation 3.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves – New Gold Rush Co-Op Mode and Gameplay Trailer

[ ?posts_id=2414144&dest=-1]

In the video, originally posted on The PlayStation Blog, the Naughty Dog representative shows himself playing Gold Rush, which is being shown at the San Diego Comic-Con for the first time anywhere. In Gold Rush, the object is to grab the little treasure statue in the map and deliver it to the treasure chest. Sounds easy right? Well only if you can beat the enemies trying to impede your progress of delivering the statue that is.

The player grabs the statue with one hand, while using a pistol with the other. In the video, the player is swarmed by enemies and an enemy helicopter trying to get the treasure back. The representative then gets into a fight and signals for help using his voice, showing that it is hard to complete the delivery without the use of teamwork. That is the object of Co-Op right?

When the player carrying the gold gets shot by enemies, he drops the gold in place of where he was shot. Players go down and are forced to wait for revival from a teammate if their health goes all the way down. Once the representative reaches the treasure site, another player is forced to throw the gold onto the building above, while the representative climbs up to receive it since the treasure chest is located on top. You would think the round would be over when the gold touches the chest, but players must kill the “leftover” enemies who were not killed in the delivery process.

Gold Rush features an unspecified amount of rounds, in which when the player progress through each one, the gold location and difficulty differs. When player goes down, they are only out for the current round, and will rejoin teammates in the next round as long as there is one.

Exclusive to the San Diego Comic-Con, interested gamers can play Gold Rush and pick up a voucher for a new skin in the Uncharted 2 multiplayer mode, which will be based on the original Uncharted character Navarro. So if you are in the area, make sure you stop in to play!

A real Slim PS3 in the open?

Could it be true? A Slim PS3 in the open? Decide for yourself…

July 12, 2009 Posted by | PlayStation 3, Sony | , , , | 4 Comments

Rumor: First photos of a Slim PS3?

With the Electronic Entertainment Expo rapidly approaching, rumors have already been thrown around the internet. One of the many interesting and exciting rumors that has been spread is highly debatable.

While Sony has said that they will not be releasing any new versions of their PlayStation 3, a rumor has popped up “revealing” a slim version of the PlayStation 3, obviously named PS3 Slim(go figure).

Appearing on a Chinese message board, some pictures of a new Slim PS3 version have been posted:

One of the most obvious changes besides the size and shape is the main logo on the middle of the PlayStation 3. The logo is different than what had originally debuted on the original PS3 which brings up suspicions since the different versions of the PlayStation 2 never differed in logos.

Another interesting detail seen on the box is the 120 Gigabyte hard drive logo. Could Sony be looking to make a version with a hard drive in-between their 80Gb and 160GB systems to give a cheaper version and compete with the Xbox 360 Elite?

What I must say is that if this turns out to be true, this system looks hot. Sony could be looking for a slimmer, cheaper version to debut on the market and to be able to sell their system to more gamers to develop their PlayStation 3 fan base.

Could this actually help Sony to overcome their loss of a fan base this console generation? Only time will tell.

PLAYSTATION(R)3 Computer Entertainment System Exclusive UNCHARTED 2: Among
Thieves(TM) Expands Gameplay by Introducing Online Multiplayer Features to Franchise

Featuring Five-Versus-Five Player Matches Competitively, and Up To Three Player
Cooperative Modes; Franchise Adds Hours of Replayability

SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 27 /PRNewswire/ — Sony Computer Entertainment America
today announced that UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves, exclusively for the
PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) system, will introduce online competitive and
cooperative multiplayer modes to the franchise. Developed by premier PS3 software
developer Naughty Dog Inc., UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves, the highly-anticipated
follow up to UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune™, will feature up to 10 players
in 5-versus-5 competitive gameplay. Cooperative multiplayer modes allow up-to-3
players to progress through a variety of environments by working together to
accomplish set objectives. Utilizing a robust party system, groups of players will
remain together in ranked and custom matches while earning currency, which used in
combination with currency earned in single player missions, will unlock additional
content and upgrades.

Presented with multiple modes of competitive gameplay, players battle in ranked
matches that include Death Match and Plunder, a unique style of multiplayer
competition that encourages team work to transport a treasure over dynamic terrain
such as ledges and obstacles. Plunder brings truly vertical game play to traditional
multiplayer modes. With maps based on environments from the single player campaign,
players are taken from the nighttime streets of a war torn city to a Nepalese
village and have the ability to create custom games allowing them to play any type
of game on any map.

“Adding a multiplayer aspect to the UNCHARTED franchise is a significant step
in the replayability of the game,” said Christophe Balestra, co president
Naughty Dog. “UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves will be the most impressive and
ambitious game that Naughty Dog has done and we are thrilled to let our fans
experience it this fall.”

SCEA is planning a consumer BETA program for UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves beginning
June 3 through June 28. Consumers who purchase one of the first copies of inFAMOUS,
the open world superhero action adventure from Sucker Punch Productions launching
May 26, have the opportunity to be among the first to test the multiplayer modes of
UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves via an access key packed in the box.

UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves is the story of Nathan Drake, a fortune-hunter with a
shady reputation and an even shadier past who is lured back into the treacherous
world of thieves and mercenary treasure-seekers. The tenth game by premier PS3
software developer Naughty Dog, UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves allows players to take
control of Drake and embark on a journey that will push him to his physical,
emotional and intellectual limits to discover the real truth behind the lost fleet
of Marco Polo and the legendary Himalayan valley of Shambhala.

Sony preparing an “Electrifying” Announcement 4/27/09

On Sony’s official US Playstation website, a teaser was posted for an upcoming announcement for Monday, April 27th. Teased to be “Electrifying”, the teaser shows two games, inFamous and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

What is Sony planning for their upcoming announcement this Monday? Is something tied in between inFamous and Uncharted 2? Many questions and more will be answered this coming Monday.

UPDATE: It seems as though websites are reporting that the final release of inFamous could include some sort of beta code/version or demo. None of these reports have been proven as true, so don’t forget to take a grain of salt with them.

New MAG Screenshots revealed

MAG, an upcoming MMO Shooter by Sony Computer Entertainment, was first revealed at E3 2008. The only visuals of the game that the general gaming public has seen so far was the debut trailer shown off at Sony’s E3 2008 press conference.

Unveiled today, we now have more of a feel of what the game will look like, play like, and feel like when it is finally released. One of the interesting details that we can acquire from these new screens are that the game may feature both a first person mode, and a third person mode. Look towards Sony’s upcoming E3 2009 press conference for more details to be given(hopefully).

A first look at an overview of one of the maps featured in the game, this thing is huge.

MAG only possible on PS3

In a recent conversation with VG247, SCEA hardware marketing boss John Koller stated that their upcoming MMO shooter MAG is only possible on the PlayStation 3.

“If you look at that competitively, it’s something that’s only possible on PS3. The processor speed, the ability of PS3 to showcase 256 players at any given time, and their actions.” said Koller at last week’s GDC, referring to their SCEA’s upcoming game MAG.

MAG was first announced at last year’s E3, shown at the end of Sony’s press conference. MAG not only is an impressive game to be on a console, but also the first game to feature up to 256 players on screen on a console. It is truly an accomplishment in technology to be able to feature all of the actions and features that 256 players can create on screen with no lag. Hopefully we get to see more of this amazing game at this year’s Sony E3 press conference.
